Abbott BinaxNOW expiration dates – IMPORTANT UPDATE

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) released important information about expiration dates on the BinaxNOW rapid antigen tests that members may have received from the state and/or federal government. ODH received notification from Abbott and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that an additional three (3) month extension of the tests has been approved. ODH is expecting to receive a letter from Abbott soon that lists the new expiration dates for each specific lot number and will provide that information via EIDC as well as post it on the ODH website upon receipt.

If your facility has tests on-hand that previously expired, these tests may be used immediately.  Further extensions of the expiration dates are not expected, so it is critical that these tests be utilized ahead of tests with expiration dates into 2022.
